Monday - Friday from 3:15 P.M. to 6:15 P.M. Everyday GaragePod participants from Springhurst Elementary School get dropped off in front of GaragePod on one of the 3 school buses. Some children come from other school districts so parents or caretakers drop them off at GaragePod where a teacher greets them at the door.
There is no magic formula but there is a type of child that seems to flourish at GaragePod. They are imaginative, creative, playful, observational, friendly and inquisitive. We have a robust arts and crafts section that is set up for children to engage in freely. We have movable parts in our backyards where children can build forts and obstacle courses. We have loose parts (random objects) throughout the space that children can use to construct new creations. We have a new space called treehaus for 4th and 5th graders that serve as their landing pad to quietly complete HW and decompress from their day with a book and other chill activities. At treehaus, we also offer more in depth crafts for those who interested. On the treehaus side, there is a huge backyard, set up for gross motor play.
After School at GaragePod has daily specials that include movement, theater, gardening, and running to name a few.
What we are not is a sports facility. Children who need a steady stream of gross motor play and physical input (basketball, soccer, football, etc) might not vibe with the pace of things at GaragePod. We like to infuse our day with a balance of interactions and activities that aren't always gross motor. If you are unsure, please reach out to email@example.com to schedule a tour.
After School @ GaragePod is a 10-month program that follows the Springhurst Elementary school year calendar. We do not offer drop-ins. and families can cancel at any time, although you are not guaranteed a spot should you wish to return. Our most important goal is to encourage children to form healthy bonds with one another. In order to do so, we have found that a regular schedule of no less than 2 days, allows children to assimilate comfortably and make new friends.
We do our best to maintain high quality staff and programming while staying as affordable to as many families as possible. We hope that this will also encourage giving back to help others experience GaragePod who would otherwise be unable to do so. Rates are designed to be comparable to a sitter and allow parents to choose GaragePod for its social- emotional benefits and enrichment opportunities.

Yes we provide a snack every single day. For the children who get picked up by 6:15, they can get an additional snack later in the evening.
Absolutely. We have a dedicated quiet space where children can complete their HW.
Snack: Daily snacks are provided. We aim to have healthy and balanced snack options and serve a combination of food types: fruits, grains, proteins, etc. We accommodate children with food allergies and food sensitivities. Snack is a time to check in and connect. When children are done eating, they know to engage in only specific transitional games/activities before our House Chat.
House Chat: After snack, we check in as a group. We read a thematic story, do some light house-keeping and review the centers that are open for the day! One of these centers always includes a structured activity. Everyday we provide a quiet space for homework.
Activity centers include the following: Art, Crafts, Music, Library, Lab, Building, Loose Parts, Mud Kitchen and HW. So long as children clean up, they are free to weave in and out of Centers of their choice.
Specials: Karate, Dance (African Fusion/Hip Hop), Gardening, Pod Racers (3rd-5th), Pod Tappers, Musical Theater, Rube Goldberg and Mock Trial. Everyday there is an art or craft activity led by one of our teachers. Children sign up for specials. Nothing is a half to do at GaragePod. But we offer lots of exciting choices.
GP was founded as an indoor/outdoor program. We love nature as much as we adore tinkering indoors. In nature, you will find us at the creek, building shelters, playing with mud, collecting rocks and sliding down Hawk Hill! We enjoy taking the kids on local adventures where they get to learn about the history of Dobbs Ferry. We are regular guests at the Keeper's House located right on the Aqueduct. Our backyard sits atop a hill so we reap the benefits of being so close to the trees.
